Marking Last Years A2 Music Videos

I was set a task to mark an A2 video from last year. I watched and marked Megan Claydons and Emmie Bryetts Backstreet Boys. My tasks were:

-Mark the video
-Go through the criteria
-Reason why I chose these marks
-Improvements I would make
-Tips

Holding a shot steady, Where appropriate - Excellent

Framing a shot, including and excluding elements as appropriate- Excellent

Using a variety of shot distances as appropriate - Excellent

Shooting Material appropriate to the task set - Excellent

Selecting mise-en-scene including colour, figure, lighting, objects and setting - Excellent. This was one of the strong points through out it, it's perfect setting and location made it apparent to the viewer.

Editing so that the meaning is apparent to the viewer - Excellent

Used varied shot transitions, captions and other effects selectively and appropriately. They used layering, different locations (they were a perfect setting for the song type), lip syncing, dance routine and good use of effects. There is also a lot of shot variety and there is even a comedy aspect when one of the boys doesn't follow the rest of the group jumping over the gate, he decides to go through the gate.

My over all mark was 48/50. It was an excellent video which was simple but clever.

It scored excellent in everything except some of the shots were either on the screen for too long or not long enough. This is where I would improve it, by slowing down or making the shots faster so it's alot more smoother.

The tips I picked up from it was to use lots of different locations, different shot types and fast pace editing.

This is there edit:

  1. Compared to many others I've looked at, not very detailed Jess - check musicvidz for 2 egs. The point of this is to help you grasp the criteria, so maybe have a 2nd run at this
