Chrysalis Records is the record company that Robbie was with at the time of the release of She's The One.
Brief History:
Chrysalis made history in 1979 by creating the first "music video album", a videocassette featuring a corresponding music video for each song on Blondie's Eat to the Beat album (released at the same time as the LP).
In 1979 Chrysalis bought and distributed the U.S. folk label Takoma Records, naming manager/producer Denny Bruce as president, who signed The Fabulous Thunderbirds and T-Bone Burnett.
Chrysalis is a subsidory of the Warner Bro's conclomerate. It started off as a small indie company dealing with U.S folk singers, but then grew into a bigger major company, that hired the likes of Sinead O'Connor, Bonnie Tyler, Geri Halliwell, Chesney Hawkes, Ramones, Spandau Ballet and The Proclaimers.
Chrysalis was formed through a licensing deal with Chris Blackwell's Island Records based on the success of bands like Jethro Tull, Cat Stevens, Robin Trower andProcol Harum, which were promoted by the label. Jethro Tull signed with Reprise Records in the United States, which led Chrysalis to an American distribution deal with Reprise's parent company, Warner Bros. Records. This lasted from 1972 until U.S. Chrysalis switched to independent distribution in 1976. PolyGram handled international distribution and Festival Records covered Australia and New Zealand. Towards the end of the 1970s, the Chrysalis offshoot 2 Tone Records brought in bands such as The Specials and The Selecter.
'Since 2011, Take That have set the new record for the fastest selling tour of all time in the UK, beating the previous record set by their Circus Live Tour in 2009,[12] won best British group,[13] and have become Amazon's best-selling artist of all time. In 2011, Take That's song Love Love was chosen as the theme song for the film X-Men: First Class and later, When We Were Young was chosen as the main theme for The Three Musketeers movie. Both tracks come off the EP Progressed.' Wikipedia 2011
In 2011 Robbie Williams was back in Take That, They announced in 2010 that they would have a UK tour, the biggest they have ever done called Progressed. As soon as the tickets got released all major ticket suppliers to crash or become slow, even the telephone networks has problems as there was such a demand for tickets. The tour has broken records for ticket sales, selling over 1.1million tickets in one day. In July 2011 they had a record breaking 8 nights in London's Wembley Arena. During this tour Robbie performed hits from his solo career. They then went on to play across Europe for the second part of their tour.
Robbie joined Gary Barlow at the judges houses for the 2011 X Factor. He helped Gary chose his final four to go through to the live stages. I watched this and you can tell he was happy, he seemed the cheeky chappy he used to be but was serious in the right places.
His primary target audience is 25-50 females who watch such shows as the X factor and go to tours that play there original 90's hits. But his secondary target audience is now teenage girls 15-24 who also watch the X factor and might enjoy his new music that is in the UK top 40 charts.
On 15 and 16 July 2011, Take That were scheduled to perform two sold-out concerts in Copenhagen, Denmark as part of their Progress Tour. Unfortunately, the day after the first concert, Robbie announced that he had acquired a stomach infection and (despite treatment attempts) was unable to take part in the concert. Due to this, the entire event was cancelled, leaving thousands of fans in frustration. This was the first time Take That ever cancelled a concert. It was not rescheduled.[119][120]Williams launched a radio show titled Radio Rudebox on 6 October 2011 where he played music and interviewed Gary Barlow.[123]
In June 2011 Robbie Williams revealed that he has been working with Gary Barlow on a new solo album which will be released late 2011. It was also announced that the album will be produced by Barlow.[121]Robbie confirmed on his official site that he will be doing a new duet. Rumors so far have included artists such as Adele and Adam Lambert
On October 21, 2011 Robbie Williams announced that he had signed with Universal Music, following his departure from his previous record label EMI in 2010. He said in a statement, "I'm really thrilled to be joining the Universal family at what I think is the most exciting time in my career." The singer's forthcoming ninth studio album is set to be released during the autumn of 2012.[124]
I was her she was me
We were one we were free
And if there's somebody calling me on
She's the one
If there's somebody calling me on
She's the one
We were young we were wrong
We were fine all along
If there's somebody calling me on
She's the one
When you get to where you wanna go
And you know the things you wanna know
You're smiling
When you said what you wanna say
And you know the way you wanna play, yeah
You'll be so high you'll be flying
Though the sea will be strong
I know we'll carry on
'Cos if there's somebody calling me on
She's the one
If there's somebody calling me on
She's the one
When you get to where you wanna go
And you know the things you wanna know
You're smiling
When you said what you wanna say
And you know the way you wanna say it
You'll be so high you'll be flying
I was her she was me
We were one we were free
If there's somebody calling me on
She's the one
If there's somebody calling me on
She's the one
If there's somebody calling me on
She's the one
Yeah she's the one
If there's somebody calling me on
She's the one
She's the one
If there's somebody calling me on
She's the one
She's the one
If there's somebody calling me on
She's the one
She's the one..
I think these lyrics are a symbol of love. It's about a girl who has always been there for Robbie, she's his one true love since they were young and all the good times and memories he remembers of her. I am not sure if this girl is still in his life, as in these lyrics or past tense or present
Once we decided on the track that we are going to create a music video for we sat down together and brainstormed some more ideas to add to my initial thoughts that I presented in my pitch.
We have realised that we will be filming later than initially thought so our shots of the couples frollicking in the leaves may not be possible. However another idea we thought of was perhaps substitute the leaves with snow, whether permitting.
Having each other couples painting
Hugging
Holding hands
Some of our influences are Bruno Mars, mainly videos that portray a hetrosexual relationship. The painting scene is influenced by Katy Perry-The One That Got Away.
1. Narrative- This is when a story is told, a story that links in with the lyrics, for example Bad Romance links with it's video as she is showing how her boyfriend bought her.
2. Concept- A concept video is when a story is told but does not link in with the lyrics. For example, New Order : True Faith, this was a video about little toy people fighting each other, this had nothing to do with the lyrics or the song
3. Performance- It is when a band member (usually the lead singer) features through out the video either performing on a stage or to a crowd. I good example of genre for this is heavy metal and rock, there stereotypical moves are head banging along with performances. For example The Darkness video for I Believe In A Thing Called Love had mainly performance but also narrative in, this is a usual convention for genres like that
I access music video's via YouTube and music channels on Sky. I don't watch them that often, only if someone reccomends them or it's a song I really like and want to watch the music video for it. I like most genres except heavy rock, opera and heavy metal. I find them hard to listen too and when they scream in them I find it horrible and not traditional music. I have never bought a DVD of music videos as I can easily access them for free with new digital media.
A fisheye lens is a wide-angle lens that takes in a broad, panoramic and hemispherical image
"In photography, a fisheye lens is a wide-angle lens that takes in a broad, panoramic and hemispherical image. Originally developed for use in meteorology[1] to study cloud formation and called "whole-sky lenses", fisheye lenses quickly became popular in general photography for their unique, distorted appearance. They are often used by photographers shooting broad landscapes to suggest the curve of the Earth. Hemispherical photography is used for various scientific purposes to study plant canopy geometry and to calculate near-ground solar radiation."
Wikipedia 2011
It is most famously used in Missy Elliot videos, in the R'n'B and Hip-Hop/Rap genre. A reason Missy Elliot might use FishEye Lens is because she isn't the stereotypical slim, good looking, glamorous female, she dresses in baggy unflattering clothes and uses this type of lense to not show her body in the shot.
Also other people such as Busta Rhymes uses the fish eye lense for a different effect and to make them look intimidating.
Censorship of music is the practice of restricting free access to musical works. This censorship may stem from a wide variety of motivations, including moral, political, military or religious reasons. Censorship can range from the complete government-enforced legal prohibition of a musical work, to private, voluntary removal of content when a musical work appears in a certain context. An example of this latter form of censorship is the radio edit.
Here are some of the ways in which censorship can be dealt with:
Blanking; when the volume is muted for all or part of the word.
Bleeping; playing a noise, usually a "beep", over all or part of the word.
Resampling; using a like-sounding portion of vocals and music to override the offending word.
Resinging; Replacing a word with a more appropriate word.
Backmasking; taking the offending word and reversing the audio, sometimes the whole audio is reversed (often because it is a home-made job), but more usually only the vocal track is reversed.
Repeating; repeating the word just said before the explicit word was used.
Skipping; deleting the word from the song without a time delay.
Echo; instead of saying a word, it echoes the last word(s) said in the line.
Disc scratching; in hip hop, scratching on the word, making it sound like another word, or make the word said faster or slower.
RoboVoicing; making the word totally non-understandable by overpowering a robovoice effect (usually used as a last resort for home-made jobs).
Distorting; Usually in Hip-Hop, less offensive words such as "shit" or else is distorted. It is usually done by shifting down the pitch.
One of the mst famous and recent music videos to be banned from everywhere, even YouTube was Rihanna - S&M. It had 'offensive' scenes and a lot of sexual reference.
Examples of artists who have had their work edited or censored:
Fela Kuti, Nigeria - Imprisoned and harassed by Nigerian authorities
Ferhat Tunc, Turkey - Censored and imprisoned by Turkish authorities
Gorki Águila, Cuba - Censored by the Cuban Government. Imprisoned August 2003 [9]
Judge Dread, England - The Guinness Book of World Records credits Judge Dread for having the most banned songs of all time on the BBC Radio.
Madonna, USA - Several videos banned and attempted boycott (usually by religious groups) of several of her concerts (such as her visits in 1990 and 2006 to Rome, her visit in 2006 to Russia, her visits in 2009 to Poland and Bulgaria, etc.). When American television network NBC aired a concert from the artist's Confessions Tour, the part of the show where Madonna stages a crucifixion was censored and replaced with images of orphaned African children (images that were part of the live performance involving the crucifixion, but which were displayed on the on-stage screens behind the singer).
Marilyn Manson, USA- His release of "(s)AINT" is banned in many countries due to its content including BDSM, cunnilingus and drug use along with masturbation.
Miguel Angel Estrella, Argentina - Banned, imprisoned and tortured by the Argentine military junta [10]
Matoub Lounès, Algeria - Assassinated in 1998
Parissa, Iran - In the Islamic Republic of Iran, female singers often face severe restrictions
Pink Floyd's album The Wall was banned in South Africa in 1980 after the song was adopted by supporters of a nationwide school boycott protesting racial inequities in education
Rolling Stones When they were to perform the song "Let's Spend the Night Together", Ed Sullivan famously challenged the Rolling Stones to change the line to "let's spend some time together."
Thomas Mapfumo, Zimbabwe - Several songs banned by Zimbabwean authorities
Robbie Williams only has one censored video, this being Rock DJ. The video showed Williams in an attempt to get noticed by a group of females, first stripping and then tearing chunks of skin and muscle from his body, and caused controversy in the United Kingdom and many other countries. The video was edited by Top of the Pops for its graphic content and many other channels followed suit.
Over 3 lessons we have watched each others vodcasts and discussed them. Most of them were on codes and conventions.
Things I picked on during the lesson is Andy Rehfeidt who is known for death metal music with a twist, he uses the current big hits at the time and make them death metal, for example Rebecca Black and Britney Spears.
The common codes and coventions of music videos are:
Take That are an English five-piece vocal pop group including Gary Barlow, Howard Donald, Jason Orange, Mark Owen and Robbie Williams. Gary Barlow is the lead singer and mainly writes their songs. In total, the group have had 27 top 40 singles and 16 top 5 singles in the United Kingdom alone, 11 of which have reached number 1, as well as having seven number 1 albums.
Take That's dance-oriented pop tunes and soulful ballads dominated the UK charts in the first half of the 1990s, winning multiple BRIT Awards while also selling two of the best selling albums of the decade with Everything Changes (which was nominated for the 1994 Mercury Prize) and their Greatest Hits album. RobbieWilliams left the band in 1995 while the four remaining members completed their world tour and released a final single before splitting up in 1996.
However, after filming a 2005 documentary and releasing a new greatest hits album, the four-piece Take That officially announced a 2006 reunion tour around the UK, called The Ultimate Tour. On 9 May 2006, it was announced that the group were set to record new material together once again; their fourth studio album, Beautiful World, was released in 2006 and was followed up with The Circus, in 2008. The group achieved new success as a four-piece, scoring a string of chart hits across the UK and Europe while taking the number of records sold to over 40 million worldwide.
Williams rejoined Take That in 2010 for the band's sixth studio album, Progress. It was released on 15 November of that year and became the fastest selling album of the 21st century thus far, the second fastest selling album in British history, whilst also making it the first album of new material to feature Take That's original line-up since their 1995 album, Nobody Else. Since 2011, Take That have set the new record for the fastest selling tour of all time in the UK, beating the previous record set by their Circus Live Tour in 2009, won best British group, and have become Amazon's best-selling artist of all time.
Hip/Hop & Rap - Stereotypical good looking girls, Money, Big flash cars, Big Houses/mansions, fish eye lense, Alcohol/partying, Clubs, Bling/flash jewellry and are normally narrative or performance based videos

Differences between Genre and Format
Format is the presentation of the information, for example music video or film opening, however each of these formats split into genres, for example, for msic, Pop, R'n'B, Chick flick and Horror
What we have learnt from those examples is that there is never specific codes and conventions for all genres, within each genre there is seperate conventions. Our genre is Pop but none of the above link in with our idea, especially the lighting and high budget because we don't have access to this as we are an indie production.
I am going to recreate this with a performance and narrative music video. For the performance aspects of the video
will be an older male lipsyncing the lyrics, being Robbie Williams. The person playing Robbie will ideally be in their
late 20's early 30. For this I may use the school stage in B hall as the location for the shoot along with a
microphone set. It will be mainly look to camera shots taken from various angles and differing heights. In
order to link that narrative and performance together, at this stage I am considering having Robbie walking
through the locations of narrative, eg leaves, lip-syncing.
The narrative sections will consist of three different ages of people, one boy and one girl, starting with a young
child. We may have problems with this so I am not giving an exact age but aslong as they are under 7years old
it will work. The second couple will be about 14 and these actors will be hopefully some of my brothers friends in
his year. Finally will be two 18 year olds for which I will use people in my year for. The ages of the younger
children may vary depending on parental consent and availability during the time of filming. Permission slips
will have to be signed by parents in the case of the younger children. The narrative of the younger children will be
recored on a DV camera that we used last year. They have lower screen quality so will provide the effect of ageing
on the footage. If this is not to the level we would like it, further editing can be done in Final Cut Express.
The remaining footage will be shot using a HD camera.
Some of my ideas of what the actors can be doing for the separate age groups are;
messing about in the leaves
blowing out birthday candles
baking - for this the youngest two will have baking mix around their face and the older two will have flour
handprints on their bum or chest.
driving a car - the youngest in a homemade cardboard box car, the 14year olds on Mario Karts on the Wii
using the wheel remote and the oldest couple driving an actual car.
I love you - messy childrens writing, text language, pretty swirly writing
fancy dress - the outfits get more revealing as the children get older
watching tv together - ceebeebies, the simpsons, a romantic movie cuddled up on the sofa however some
testing will need to be done for this one as the tv may flicker as we play the footage back
There will also be a collage of photos of their life together, and pan of the window sill which is decorated with
photo frames - camera then zooms into one of these and it turns from a still image to a a film memory. Bonfire
nights/ watching the fireworks together - toffee apples, hats and scarfs etc. swings/at the park. First kiss.
Editing - not only will the footage of the younger children be aged, it may also be in black and white to make
it clear that it is a memory. I will also use slow motion for certain sections of the flashbacks and a variety of
transitions as well as layering.
My inspiration for this pitch was not necessarily other music videos, however I have looked at other forms of
multimedia such as the Nikon Coolpix s3000 camera advert where there are a group of friends and the person
taking the photo zooms in on the face of the person he loves. Another example of my influences can be seen
below.
The John Lewis Chrismas 2010 advert:
All of these ideas are condensed into my pitch to the class that you can view below, along with some feedback and questions I recieved after
